POE is a remote power supply method of the connected network devices (such as Wireless LAN AP, IP Phone, Bluetooth AP, IP Camera, etc.) on a standard Ethernet cable through the Ethernet power supply technology, which removes the installation of a single power supply on each of the IP network terminals. Without the deployment of a separate power supply system for the field, the wiring and management cost of the terminal equipment can be greatly reduced, and the development of related fields can be promoted.
On the basis of the traditional Ethernet switch, the POE switch is added with the POE function, making the switch not only have the function of data exchange but also be able to transmit power through the network line at the same time, that is, the powered POE Internet switch
. It can be distinguished from the ordinary switch in appearance. The POE switch has the word "POE" on the surface of the panel, indicating that it has the function of POE, which the ordinary switch doesn't have.
The POE switch port supports the output power reaching up to 15.4W or 30W, conforms to the IEEE802.3af/802.3at standard, and provides power for the standard POE terminal through the network wire power supply, which eliminates the additional power wiring.
As for the POE switch that conforms to the IEEE802.3at standard, the output power of its port can reach 30W, and the power available by the power equipment is 25.4W. More generally, the POE switch is the switch that supports the network line power supply. It can not only realize the data transmission function of the ordinary switch but also supply the power supply to the terminal of the network.
POE refers to, without any changes in the existing Ethernet Cat.5 wiring infrastructure, the technology that can transmit data signals for some IP based terminals (such as IP phones, wireless LAN access points, network cameras, etc.) while providing DC power supply for such devices. POE technology can ensure the safety of the existing structured wiring while ensuring the normal operation of the existing network and minimizing the cost.
